Mat is a figurative painter. He uses humour and surreal elements, inspired by cartoons and comic books, to explore the mundane aspects of day-to-day life. Regularly using himself and friends as models, Mat wrong-foots the viewer by subverting expectations of classic portraiture; traditionally a medium to showcase the sitter’s beauty or opulence. Mat frequently challenges these ideas with unusual compositions and unconventional poses.

His work has been shown in open exhibitions around Manchester, including a solo exhibition, “Heady,” in Pint Size Gallery at Strange Brew Bar.
